Retarded by a slow start, I've finally got on the IDOL bandwagon. It's about time anyway - all the other hopefuls who were far from the making the cut are finally out of the competition (thus sparing my poor ears from their..... errr singing?), leaving us with two very talented singers wannabe that are so impressive in their own way, I'm just about as confused as the next person about who I want to be the ultimate idol.
Was.
I WAS confused. Here's a look at the last two standing and why I chose who I did:
HARDY MIRZA He's your regular neighbourly bloke with the puppy eyes that screams innocence but put him on a stage with a mike and you better be prepared to be blown away with his amazing vocals. To up the thrill, try closing your eyes. Why? He may be the best vocalist so far with the most consistent performance and the most breathtaking range, but he still wears that 'I'm your friendly neighbourhood lad' brand on his sleeve. It's all over him and he can't seem to break out of that to become the shining star. Personally, I think he's got a great voice and spectacular talent... but when it comes to being an idol, I'm not sure he's there yet.
Or am I being biased?
JONATHAN LEONG Here's the other guy. The girl-magnet. I can understand why, coz once he opens his mouth to sing that deep, rich and emotive voice emerges to melt you like M&Ms in your mouth. (PS: I don't get it how girls think he's CUTE though. I actually see a striking resemblance to Cavin Su from Dreamz FM... must be the small eyes... but I must say that even so, Jonathan's much better looking)
If voting for the next Singapore Idol is based on mere listening to the voices, Jonathan must accept that Hady WILL win hands down. Not that Jon can't sing, he's just not AS good. But since everyone's WATCHing them perform, Jon gets extra points for his showmanship and stage presence. I don't know about the rest but I'm pretty sure he has what it takes. Best of all, you can actually feel his appreciation for his family and supporters; his sincerity really shines through and it's one rare quality to find in young men who have catapulted to fame in a matter of months.
I mean, look at Sly.
I just read about him in an interview the newspaper did with him and boy was I disgusted. I mean, what kinda decent guy offers the photographs of his current and ex-squeeze to be splashed in the papers? To think that people are comparing Jon with Sly. Oh please... Sly is far behind in terms of class and poise. Sly went on to say that the first batch of Idols were OBVIOUSLY better than the current and he OBVIOUSLY hasn't heard himself sing. Bleaghh.
Anyway, back to the two lads. Both great in what they do but I still prefer Jon's candor and deep tone.
VOTE for JON!
