    Scientist's Deliberations

    THE HOST (2006)

It has garnered rave reviews. "Finally, a good asian monster movie, " everyone is exclaiming. A good monster movie in fact. This show beats godzilla and what-have-you-in-hollywood movies hands down.

At least it does in my opinion.

Other than the could-be-better-and-more-realistic CG effects, the actors' performances were really refined. But then a superficial person like me will still complain that there were no good-looking people in the show. Terribly unfortunate. There was no suave hero to steal the thunder from the foul-looking mutant/ Loch Ness copycat/ monster/ thing. Was one smart move from the casting director if you ask me - a hot hunk or babe would definitely captivate at least a fraction of the audience's attention, and without full focus on the ghastly fish monster, we probably wouldn't think it was THAT gross.

All in all, a pretty intense movie with one little tiny problem. One small blip in the storyline.

Tons of formaldehyde down the drain is supposed to cause a mutation that created that hell of a monster that took the Han river and its banks by storm, breaking loose like a mad dog and going on a killing spree.

In a span of 6 years.

    HAHA.

Everyone who takes science should laugh along with me. How the heck does formaldehyde cause a mutation (fine, maybe SOME mutations) so drastic that it could CREATE a monster?
It's not even a mutagen in the first place. And besides, for natural selection to take place such that a new species like this evolves from a fish probably take millions of years. Which by then, I expect, the entire human race would be wiped out by cancer and the poor newly evolved monster would die of extreme hunger.

    I'm such a wet blanket.
