Too many things...

'Put the lime in the coke!"

I can't get that jingle outta my head and I have yet to try the new flavour. But then again, lime, lemon, not that big a difference what... what's the thrill?

I'm not a that great a coke fan but out of curiousity, I got my best friend to bring over 2 whole new flavours never seen (and probably never tasted) in Singapore!

tADA! It's citra and raspberry coke!

Reviews later... =)

It's almost a week since my last paper and time seems to just fly pass. I have so many things that I want to do but there isn't seem to be the time nor the money... I need to plan and ration my resources carefully!

For instance, there are a string of movies I'm dying to watch (already got HP checked on my list... but sadly, the movie doesn't do the book justice. 2.5 hours is way too little for the original content) - but considering the price of movie tickets nowadays, I may just have to sacrifice watching some.

Honestly, the cinemas should do something about the soaring prices. Give us some incentives, like buy 4 get one free or something... geez... at the rate things are going, we'll have nothing left to do in Singapore except stay home, watch TV and munch on potato chips. Don't deprive us of our only entertainment avenue leh...

Then there are the theatre performances. I've already blown a hefty amount on 'Rent' and some on 'The Little Prince' (x2) and then there's 'A Twist of Fate' on Sunday, before it ends; which miraculously extended their run. That's a whole lot of supporting the arts ya! (if only the arts can do back a favour and support me... -_-")

Performances aside, there are the interhall games coming up and I'm be missing a whole lot of trainings, with much regret, because of my ongoing research project in the labs. I feel bad... cos know how hard it is to coordinate trainings and to get sufficient people to go down for trainings. And even if I were to go down for the matches, it wouldn't be fair to others and myself, because I haven't been training much. =(

For now, I hope I can arrange my time properly for both sports and my friends who are back from overseas! Missed them a whole lot!

I brought my sister to watch a play: The Little Prince, a part of the Asian Children's Festival. It was a rather enjoyable performance, if not for the screeching, screaming and whining young children who couldn't stop kicking the back of my seat.

Of Rent and Timbre

Here's the lowdown on Part II of my night adventures.

Last night was the premiere of the Broadway musical, Rent, and having gotten tickets wayyy before my exams, my best friend and I had the best seats of our price category! Honestly, I didn't even know it was opening night... I thought they have already started days ago.

So it was a night of a bit of glitz and glamour with loads of good-looking people in smart suits and dressy attires AND a string of Mediacorp artistes as well...

Trying to do a classy chic for the premiere...

I finally met up with my bestest best friend Grace (not the one who was out with me the night before though... that's one of my great friends too) who was more than half an hour late; but I was just as bad cos I was 20 min late. Oops.. but anyway, she's been back for more than a week but I only get to see her now because of the stupid exams!

We had a simple dinner at this bubble tea hut (reminds me of my secondary school days when I used to patronize the one at Kallang after my ice-skating sessions!) before rushing down to Kallang Theatre, fearing that the musical would start without us and we wouldn't be allowed admission. Luckily it didn't start on time and they're alot more lax than at the Esplanade I think.

Reunited with my best pal!

Bored during the intermission - a picture of my nice nails.

The musical was wonderful.

It touched on pretty explicit issues - there were alot of sexual connotations, drugs, homosexuality and AIDS.... but overall, I was impressed with the singing and choreography. Very immaculate coordination!

The male lead had a really wide vocal range with powerful lungs and Karen Mok with her never-ending legs almost measured up, if not for her screechy high notes and the wobbly voice during the emotionally intense scenes. But at least she looked really hot and sexy for the part of Mimi...

She does deserve some credit for being the only Asian among the original Broadway cast (if I'm not wrong).

Best part of the performance? When the entire cast came together to sing Seasons of Love.
B.e.a.u-teefullll...

After the show ended, Grace and I made our way down to Timbre for Jeremy Monteiro's last night there. Before we walked over to the bistro, we dropped by the Ladies toilet at the Substation, only to be totally freaked out.

We were in the cubicles doing our thing when we heard someone enter the toilet. Grace thought it was some really brave girl, coming into the toilet alone so late. But when I came out, I saw the back view of a MAN entering the cubicle beside mine.

Gosh. I was totally freaked and anxious for Grace to come out quickly. When she was done, I mouthed to her "There's a MAN in the toilet!!!!" and we dashed outta there as quickly and as quietly as we could, fearing our escape would alert the possibly perverted person.

Disgusting... and know what, the cubicle door wasn't even closed fully after he went in.

So anyway, we managed to reach Timbre in one piece and fitted in quickly with the relaxed atmosphere.

One thirsty lady?

Nah it's my Pina Colada....

The Musos.

Jeremy Monteiro was as usual, superb on the keyboards and I had a really wonderful time hanging out and catching up with my best friend and what's going on in her life.

I can't wait to hang out more and do the fun stuff like we used to!

Hustle Bustle

May I have the fanfare please? Coz I'm B.A.C.K.

Sorry to those who have been itching for me to update my blog. The truth is, I've been equally desperate to pour out my daily thoughts and adventures (somewhat... when you're so caught up in being a nerd, everything else is ESPECIALLY interesting) as well, but time and circumstances were against me (ya lah, that moron of a thief who took off with my laptop @*&!!#*&^??@#!) and thus, I was MIA - as if on a road trip, one where I was taken on a bumpy ride.

For 2 weeks I've been out of touch with the outside world. I had no idea what was going on beyond the radius of NTU.

Things are about to change. Hell yeah.

Yesterday was a good day. In french, c'est belle jour.

Immediately after my last paper, I went down to Jurong Point for a quick lunch with Grace and Christian before heading for a pedicure appointment, of which I didn't have to pay a single cent (unless you want to count the bus fare from NTU lah) because I got a $50 service voucher when I bought contact lenses in bulk months ago (yep, i'm a sucker for vouchers and discounts. hey, money doesn't come by easily what... and good deals are meant to be utilised to the max!); it was like a mini-makeover day. I got my nails done while Grace did her hair.

Then it was we shopped around a little before heading back to get some rest to rejuvenate for our ladies' night out.

On my way to the train station, I passed by a newsstand and decided to check for interesting reads that might kill off some spare time (i presumed that since my exams are over, i'll have all the time in the world to laze and bum but i'm about to eat my own words. more later).

Anyway, I saw the latest copy of Her World and it was so deliciously thick, I couldn't resist not getting it, so I whipped out 6 bucks and was ready to heave the stack of glossy pages home when the auntie told me to wait. Actually, I didn't hear her myself - the uncle next to me relayed the message but when I looked at the newsstand, the auntie ignored me and got herself busy with opening some large boxes.

I was wondering if she really did ask me to wait when she dug out three shiny golden boxes of Chicken Essence. FREE. For ME.

Wahahahah! Such a wonderful surprise! Can brighten my day anyday!

So I happily lugged my treasures home and barely got enough rest before it was time to head out again.

Met my schoolmate, Grace, for a sumptious dinner at Country Manna - it's the first time I tried their pastry soup... yumyum... and we ate and ate (she had ribs while I had chicken) till we almost burst (the servings seemed extremely unconquerable; maybe it was the soup and pastry before the main course)!

I haven't had such good food in a long time. (Okay not really lah... Just last Sunday, my mum drove all the way to NTU to take me out for Hongkong cuisine at Bukit Timah for dinner. I feel so loved!)

After the stomach-inflating, appetite satisfying dinner, we headed down to Clarke Quay for our regular chillout and drinks.

Just the 2 of us

Cosmopolitan & Me

The night went fantastic with great music and drinks at both Crazy Elephant and Jazz @ Southbridge until one idiot had to come by and ruin everything.

I'll spare the details but to cut the long story short, someone tried a terrible pickup line at Jazz. Totally lame to the T, no sense of humour, zero charm and wit, couldn't counter my replies and worse, was persistent.

Buay tahan.

He needs to work on being astute and for goodness' sake, the fake American accent, if he wants to sound American at all. All in all, lame is NEVER the way to get to know girls. Intellect, gentlemen...

Today's a good day too.

Slept in till 12nn for the first time in don't know how many weeks (or months?) and got a haircut to rescue me from my hair which was getting too thick and unruly, especially at the back.

Before

After! (the length's maintained but there IS a difference right??)

Is it time for some highlights? My hair does seem a bit dull, looking all blackish.

The rest of the evening was filled with the best company, music and more.

But you'll have to come back for Part II because it's almost 5am and my eyes are demanding a break.

Till then...

The end beckons...

I've been home the past few days.

Am supposed to be buried deep in mugging and memorizing, but somehow, it's all out of perspective now.

I'm taking things easy.

I'm not delibrately avoiding the pressure, I'm taking it in my stride. (Don't get me wrong, I do my fair share of studying too... just not as uptight as I used to be..)

Honestly, I don't want to be like everyone - who's up to their necks with anxiety and exam stress.

I'm not like everyone else.

Is this self-delusion?

No, because I believe I have a God bigger than me. Greater than the exams. Greater than the mountains of stress.

But of course, He can't help me if I don't help myself right?

So it's still back to the books; but at least without the stress =P

Just like me...

Like mentioned in the 'C'est Moi' column, I'm a living paradox.

When things are shitty and depressing, I punch my fists into the air and beat my chest, wondering what have I done to deserve such crap. But when suddenly, things take a miraculous turn for the better, I whimper in a guilty voice, what have I done to deserve this?

I cannot be pleased, can I?

Having said that, I must clarify that I am not in anyway near the gorilla-like J (the chest pounding action? noooo...).

I am in total bliss.

Anyone would be too, if they had such awesome people around them.

I met my mum in town for lunch and she took me to a Japanese restaurant at Swissotel.
I do go Japanese once in a while, but never have I gone so authentic. The food there was lip-smacking delicious.

The meal started with this tiny little cup of Chawanmushi. It looked rather pale in comparison to the more generous serving they have at Sakae. But lo and behold, the tiny thing packed a whole lot of punch! Got ginkgo nut somemore! It's so good, when I think of Sakae's now, I think, bland.

My mum and I each ordered a lunch set which we shared for variety; the succulent prawns in a creamy custard-like base, the very perfectly grilled salmon, the grilled beef fillet, oh yes, the beef...

Never before have I tasted such soft and tender beef. It was so juicy yet it melted in my mouth like fish meat does. If the normal Japanese beef tastes this good already, I think the day when I get to taste Kobe beef, I'll just die of happiness.

Then my sister gave me her little present preview that she got my mum to pass to me. Check this out:

Pretty flower

and the sweetest hand-made card with the most heartwarming sign-off!

And I must also show the very very humongous poster of me sitting in my room.

Tada!

It's a mosaic present made by Mokkie. Very unique!
But for the most shocking one yet...

Christian and Grace got me a NEW HANDPHONE. Okay, an old-new handphone to be precise... but it's still in perfect condition! I lost my T630 but now I get a more functional k300i!

Yay... I never knew birthdays could be this awesome.

End of an Era

If you're observant enough, you'd have noticed that I've change my blog name. Sadly, I am no longer a Pre-Adult. In some ways I guess the label would still hold truth (like how I'm still financially dependent on my parents... yikes) but legally, I'm no longer a kid.

I can probably delude myself that I'm still one when I munch on these (my childhood favourite snacks).

But I'm an adult now. I'm 21.

Oh well, who am I kidding... I never thought being 21 was a big deal.

But my friends beg to differ. Which is why, to my sweet surprise, they lavished upon me, lots of attention and gifts! Very touched - that they went through all the trouble and effort in spite of the coming exams.

THANK YOU ALL!

Just to share some of the SWEET (literally) surprises I got...

Personalised chocolate from SK!

My first bouquet of chocolate from Joanne

and another BIG hamper of goodies from her...

...all to add to my very own 'Willy Wonka' store (chocolates and sweets are ALL i have in my fridge and they are all gifts and treats from my friends!)

But, honestly, nothing can be sweeter than having a little surprise celebration planned right in the midst of my mugging session (thanks tresa!) and having a good friend to travel all the way back to our ulu campus to celebrate my birthday! And it's a good friend that I haven't met in a while and miss terribly... thanks Joanne!

I have so many people to thank.

The best present this year? Just knowing that there are so many people who remember and who care.... second best?

The 1000 paper-cranes my aunt folded for me for well-wishes.

Sometimes I just need to be less cynical and realise that I'm really one blessed girl woman.
