Twin Reviews - One valley, one peak
Yesterday was a long-awaited day out.
After homing in NTU for weeks and returning home during the weekends only to do more work and sleep a little more, I finally took some time off the do something I like. Albeit the hefty price of weekend movie tickets, I caught 2 shows in one day.
Snakes on a Plane
The movie title was big enough a clue that we were going to be taken on a ride of lameness. We girls decided not to be so discriminating against the name of the show and cut it some slack... afterall, we had legions of friends who've had watched the show and claimed that it was good. Besides, the person who came up with the corny title couldn't have possibly wrote the script as well, right?
WRONG.
Peppered with tacky lines ('Listen to me, and you live' <-- classic example of L Jackson trying to act James Bond), synthetic computer animations of the supposedly lethal snakes on board, and lotsa of gory parts that make you wanna squirm and yelp in pain. If I had to say something good about the show, it'd be that at least at no one point did I feel like dozing off. It wasn't a great show, but it wasn't terribly bad either. However, if they had worked on the script a bit more and used some witty comments instead of the cheesy ones, this show would probably garner a more positive review from moi.
Umizaru 2: Test of Trust/ Limit of Love Other than the fact that the movie people can't decide on a title for the sequel of the 'Seamonkeys' (there are two variations), the movie did pretty well on my score cards. At least for this movie, there's an eyecandy to swoon over (Jackson on Snakes? No thank you.) - the yummilicious Hideaki Ito.
Hunkiness aside, this sequel is much more intense compared to the first one (Click here for the first review). Slightly toned down on the emotional part (no buddies dying in rescue action) but definitely gripping. Even in spite of the fact that the plot was uncannily similar to the Hollywood blockbuster Titanic. Well, at least there was no lame 'You jump, I jump' scenes.
The show's so good I can't wait for the third instalment... if there's going be any.
